Six out of ten of us want to put an end to this noxious form of “Jerry Brown Syndrome.”
So-called “Sanctuary Cities” are a particularly odious example of JBS. They are cities that declare that although they get gobs of fed money they won’t follow fed law. In this case they won’t do the minimum and assist in the deportation of illegal aliens. Most Americans don’t buy the faux morality act.
Congress should act. If you want to pretend that you can snub your nose at federal law, then you should accept the consequences of semi-secession. I can choose which laws to follow, but I know there are consequences. So should it be here.
The larger question at the moment is the selective enforcement of law. What looks like a clear cut case of Black Panthers intimidating voters doesn’t even merit investigation, despite Democrat howling about the sanctity of the voting booth and its absolute centrality to free elections. Arizona and now Alabama dare to follow federal law and get the full weight of the “justice department” (and now 16 guilty national accomplices) on their necks. There are legions of examples from Tim Geithner evading taxes and getting to be treasury secretary all the way through the lapses alleged by Rep. Darrell Issa.
