Thorium has a number of huge advantages over uranium in the production of nuclear power. One is that a thorium plant is passively cooled, which means that if there is an interruption the plant shuts down and cools off, thus it can’t “melt down.” This was tested in an American plant years ago and found true.
India and China are rushing into this new (but actually old) technology while our senate dawdles around and fails to pass the simple bill needed to get the ball rolling.
I am attracted to the fact that thorium is super abundant and extracting it from the waste generated by already existing coal-fired energy will provide great amounts of power and reduce a source of dangerous waste.
