Action Alert: California Legislature May Cripple E-Verify, Act To Save it!

E-Verify is a simple electronic way of cutting down on illegal immigration by stopping them from getting jobs. So, the geniuses that want to circumvent the law fight it every step of the way.

California is close to passing a law that would damage the use of E-Verify in the state. Please take a minute and call your state senator to oppose the legislation and fax Gov. Brown while you are at it.

Here is the text of the email I received:

AB 1236, which is sponsored by Assemblyman Paul Fong, would invalidate local ordinances in California that require employers (or just local contractors) to use E-Verify. The bill passed the Assembly earlier this year and is now scheduled for a Senate floor vote prior to the September 9 deadline for passing 2011 legislation.
Please call your state Senator to register your opposition to AB 1236. Talking points are included on the right. And please check your Action Buffet for a fax to send your Senator.
In addition, please call the below-noted Democratic Senators and Governor Brown using the additional talking points provided. Your Action Buffet also contains a fax to send Gov. Brown.

Talking Points
  • Please vote NO on AB 1236. Californians strongly oppose this anti-American worker legislation.
  • AB 1236 would negate local government efforts to reserve jobs for citizens through E-Verify. That means more citizens will be unemployed, not less.
  • California unemployment stands at 12 percent but rates are even higher for African Americans, Hispanic Americans and young people. AB 1236 would hurt our most vulnerable citizens!
  • Despite the claims of AB 1236 proponents, E-Verify is extremely accurate and does not burden businesses.

Please do not dial back the progress local governments made in protecting citizens.
